Edo CPC, NTA, Speed FM Interfaces, Resolve To Strengthen Synergy For Better Consumer Protection

In continuation of its ongoing engagements with relevant Government Authorities and Stakeholders, the Chairman of Edo State Consumer Protection Committee (Edo CPC), Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture and members of his committee has paid separate courtesy visits to the Management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Benin Network Centre and Speed FM, Benin, to seek their support towards regular coverage of its activities, with a view to tackling factors associated with counterfeit products and exploitation of consumers by private sector operators.

During the visits, the Chairman highlighted the mandates of the Committee, which range from protecting consumer rights to enforcing standards and ensuring value for money.

Similarly, the Chairman also used the opportunity to  formally invite the Management teams of NTA and Speed FM to the Committee's planned Town Hall/Stakeholders Meeting scheduled for Monday, 29th September, 2026.


In their separate remarks, the Zonal Director of NTA Benin Network Centre, Mrs. Teni Ajayi, and the General Manager of Speed FM, Mrs. Patricia Orunmwense, unanimously resolved to support the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee in promoting its activities through their various media platforms, in order to eradicate counterfeit products and stop the exploitation of consumers, while commending the people-oriented SHINE Agenda of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State.

The Edo State High Court has declared unlawful the restriction of human and vehicular movement during the state’s environmental sanitation exercise, in a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday. Justice Isoken Urhomwen Erameh ruled that the enforcement of a stay-at-home order between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on sanitation days violates citizens’ constitutional rights. In its decision, the court held that such restrictions are inconsistent with Section 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, which guarantees freedom of movement. It further found the measures to be in breach of Articles 12 and 13 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. Edo State Consumer protection committee Extend Deadline On Ban Of Sachet Drinks By Two Weeks

EDO STATE  CONSUMER PROTECTION   COMMITTEE (CPC) GRANTS TWO WEEKS GRACE PERIOD TO DISPOSE SACHETS GIN Today, the Management Committee of Edo State Consumer Protection Committee received in audience, the representatives of United Beverages Dealers Association and Edo State Sachet Alcohol Beverages Distributors Association. During the meeting, the representatives jointly requested an extension from 7th September to 30th December, 2026 to enable them sell off existing stock of sachet gin in their custody, citing various factors. Suspected Cultists Attack  Odionwere, Elders, Okaighele In Obazuwa Community  Not less than twenty suspected cultists led by the former Okaighele, Odaro Peace Ibizugbe, of Obazuwa Community in the Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State,off the upper  Ekenwan road,  weekend  attacked the Odionwere, elders and the present Okaighele of the community. Odaro and his group of boys were said to have invaded the community with guns, battle axes and different weapons.
