*IYAMIDR COMMENDS EDO STATE GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO FOR ₦1M SUPPORT TO SOUTH AFRICA RETURNEES, HAILS LEADERSHIP ON MIGRATION, SECURITY AND HUMAN DIGNITY*   Benin City, Edo State - July 13th, 2026   The Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR) commends the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his decisive and compassionate response to the 41 Edo indigenes evacuated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks in Pretoria and Johannesburg.   You will recall that on the 4th of May, 2026, IYAMIDR issued a comprehensive press release on the safety of Nigerians in South Africa. In that statement we urged the Federal Government and all state governments to urgently prepare to receive their citizens and put in place structured reintegration support to help returnees regain stability and dignity.   Today, we are glad to see that call translated into action....

EDSG Disclose Plans To Rehabilitate Oba Akenzua II Cultural Center  Edo State Government (EDSG) has disclosed plans to rehabilitate and overhaul the Oba Akenzua II Cultural Center in Benin City to restore it as a public monument and a hub to attract all cultural activities across the State and beyond. The Secretary to Edo State Government Musa Ikhilor Esq disclosed the plan while receiving members and executives of Aiguobasinmwin movement world-wide and Coalition of Benin social cultural organizations who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Benin City. Ikhilor said aside from the Oba Akenzua II Cultural Center, the Edo State Government will also renovate some areas in the palace of the Oba of Benin that needs renovations. IYAMIDR urges Okpebholo to institutionalize security heroes' welfare   The Initiative For Youth Awareness on Migration Immigration Development and Reintegration, IYAMIDR Nigeria, has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to establish a statutory welfare covenant for security personnel serving in Edo State, warning that "law without welfare will not hold a weary officer on the frontline."
