EDO CONSUMER PROTECTION COMMITTEE WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL RAIDS ACROSS EDO STATE OVER BAN ON SACHET GIN

The Management Committee of Edo State Consumer Protection Committee was reliably informed of an illegal raid carried out today by some police officers on sellers of Sachet Gin at Scout Ground Premises/Ogba Market by Ogba Zoo, Ogba Community.

Upon interrogation via call by the Chairman, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture, the said officers could not provide any authorization to carry out such duty. Hence, the Chairman told the Police Officers to wait for him but before his arrival, the Police Officers had already ran away.

For the avoidance of doubt, the public is hereby informed that:
1.  Enforcement has NOT commenced.

2.  The period of grace granted to the Association of Beverages Dealers and Sachet Gin Sellers remains in force and will expire on 20th September, 2026.

3.  No Police Officer, individual, or group has the right to extort, harass, or raid any person in connection with the ban before the expiration of the grace period.

The Committee will take necessary steps to ensure that no one impersonates its mandate.
