Group seeks transparent leadership as Edo South chairmen-elect emerge

OTUEDON'OGBENBE, popularly known as the Benin Journalists Forum, has called for transparent, accountable and inclusive leadership from the newly elected chairmen across Edo South Senatorial District, urging them to prioritise grassroots development and deliver on the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate.

The forum made the call while congratulating the chairmen-elect on their victory in the just concluded Edo State local government elections.

In a statement jointly signed by its Convener, Comrade Edosa Okunbor, and Secretary, Elder Patrick Ahanor, the group congratulated Engr. Gabriel Iduseri (Oredo), Hon. Osaro Eribo (Egor), Hon. Eric Sino Osawaru (Ikpoba-Okha), Hon. Austin Imafidon (Uhunmwode), Hon. Anthony Osarobo (Ovia South West), Hon. Christopher Eriamatoe (Ovia North East) and Hon. Thomson Osagie (Orhionmwon) on their electoral victories.

The forum described their emergence as a clear demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by the people and urged them to justify the mandate through visionary, transparent and people-oriented leadership.

According to the statement, the chairmen-elect should place premium on the provision of basic infrastructure, quality healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, youth and women empowerment, security, job creation and other initiatives capable of stimulating sustainable socio-economic development at the grassroots.

The group also advised the incoming council chairmen to operate an open-door policy, carry all stakeholders along irrespective of political affiliation and ensure prudent management of public resources in the overall interest of their respective local government areas.

OTUEDON'OGBENBE reaffirmed its commitment to promoting developmental journalism in Edo South Senatorial District, fostering unity and the welfare of its members, as well as supporting leaders from the district whose policies and programmes are geared towards improving the well-being of the people.


The forum expressed optimism that the chairmen-elect would provide exemplary leadership, strengthen local governance and deliver meaningful democratic dividends to residents of Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Uhunmwode, Ovia South West, Ovia North East and Orhionmwon local government areas.

The Edo State High Court has declared unlawful the restriction of human and vehicular movement during the state’s environmental sanitation exercise, in a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday. Justice Isoken Urhomwen Erameh ruled that the enforcement of a stay-at-home order between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on sanitation days violates citizens’ constitutional rights. Suspected Cultists Attack  Odionwere, Elders, Okaighele In Obazuwa Community  Not less than twenty suspected cultists led by the former Okaighele, Odaro Peace Ibizugbe, of Obazuwa Community in the Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State,off the upper  Ekenwan road,  weekend  attacked the Odionwere, elders and the present Okaighele of the community.
