*UNIBEN DID NOT AND WILL NOT SURRENDER TO CULTISTS*

Let it be on record that under Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie, SAN, the leadership of the University of Benin did not and will not surrender the campus to cult activity. The claim that UNIBEN has been surrendered to cultists is inaccurate. 

Before the ungodly incident took place yesterday at the main gate, the management of the University of Benin had already put machinery in place to overhaul the university’s security architecture. 

While we condemn the barbaric killing at the front of UNIBEN main gate, the exact cause is not yet fully ascertained. The position of the University of Benin management is clear: UNIBEN will not be safe for anyone intent on causing harm, given the interventions now in the pipeline for implementation.

Let it be noted: _“If you don’t mean well for UNIBEN, the environment won’t accommodate you going forward.”_

The Edo State High Court has declared unlawful the restriction of human and vehicular movement during the state’s environmental sanitation exercise, in a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday. Justice Isoken Urhomwen Erameh ruled that the enforcement of a stay-at-home order between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on sanitation days violates citizens’ constitutional rights. In its decision, the court held that such restrictions are inconsistent with Section 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, which guarantees freedom of movement. It further found the measures to be in breach of Articles 12 and 13 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. Justice Erameh consequently issued a declaration that the prohibition of movement during the sanitation period is unlawful and unconstitutional. Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Challenging Edo Governorship Election The Supreme Court has ruled that the petitioners seeking to nullify the Edo State governorship election failed to substantiate their claims. Delivering its verdict on Thursday, the apex court held that since the petitioners did not challenge results from all the polling units across the state, it was “absurd” to demand the nullification of the entire election and to be declared winners. The court further stated that the appellants failed to call witnesses or tender admissible evidence to prove irregularities in the disputed polling units. With this ruling, the Supreme Court has affirmed the outcome of the election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Suspected Cultists Attack  Odionwere, Elders, Okaighele In Obazuwa Community  Not less than twenty suspected cultists led by the former Okaighele, Odaro Peace Ibizugbe, of Obazuwa Community in the Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State,off the upper  Ekenwan road,  weekend  attacked the Odionwere, elders and the present Okaighele of the community. Odaro and his group of boys were said to have invaded the community with guns, battle axes and different weapons. According to the new Okaighele, Mr. Idahosa Nosakhare, they were at the Odionwere house on Friday 27 of March,  at about 11 am holding meeting to brief the elders of the community who could not attend the meeting at the Palace of the Royal father, Oba Ewuare 11 where the issue of the Obazuwa community Okaigheleship  was resolved, when Odaro and his group of boys armed to the teeth Attacked us.
