The Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR) has commended the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, for the appointment of Barrister Musa Umar Ikhilor as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), describing the decision as strategic, visionary, and vital to effective governance in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Executive Director of IYAMIDR, Solomon Okoduwa, the group praised both the governor and the SSG for what it described as purposeful leadership and commitment to the progress of Edo State.
Okoduwa stated that the appointment of Barr. Musa Umar Ikhilor was a “square peg in a square hole,” noting that the office of the Secretary to the State Government remains one of the most sensitive and strategic positions in any administration.
According to the statement, Governor Okpebholo demonstrated wisdom and foresight in selecting Ikhilor to coordinate government activities and drive policy implementation under the administration’s SHINE Agenda.
“We also use this opportunity to commend His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, for his brilliant and strategic choice in appointing you to this critical office,” the statement read.
“Selecting the right SSG is key to the success of any administration, and your appointment has proven to be a deliberate step toward effective governance.”
The youth-focused organisation further applauded the Edo State Government’s SHINE initiative, describing it as “a step in the right direction” capable of delivering sustainable development and improved governance for the people of the state.
IYAMIDR noted that Barr. Ikhilor has demonstrated diligence, humility, and administrative competence since assuming office, adding that his role has been instrumental in strengthening coordination within government and supporting the governor’s reform-driven agenda.
The statement emphasized that the office of the SSG serves as the engine room of government, responsible for policy coordination, institutional continuity, and advisory support necessary for smooth governance.
The group also acknowledged Ikhilor’s resilience and ability to manage complex political and administrative responsibilities while maintaining focus on the development priorities of the state.
“Your courage and resilience in handling complex political and administrative situations, while keeping the interest of the state paramount, have not gone unnoticed,” Okoduwa stated.
“It is this kind of steady, seasoned leadership that gives confidence to stakeholders and partners working for the development of Edo State.”
IYAMIDR further encouraged the SSG to remain steadfast despite the challenges associated with public service, stressing the need for more leaders who are committed to integrity, accountability, and development-oriented governance.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth empowerment, migration awareness, immigration development, and reintegration programmes across Edo State and beyond.
The statement was formally addressed to Barr. Musa Umar Ikhilor and dated May 23, 2026.
