*RE: PURPORTED TITLE OF “IMPERIAL MAJESTY, OGIEMEN OF UTATAN BINI-NATION” — CALL FOR INVESTIGATION AND ARREST OF PROMOTERS*

It has come to our attention that Bevy Efe, a former Special Assistant to former Governor Godwin Obaseki, has been promoting a non-existent traditional title styled as “Imperial Majesty, Ogiemen of Utatan Bini-Nation”.

We wish to state categorically that in the Benin Kingdom, there is only one King. It is trite and constitutionally recognized that His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, is the sole custodian of the style “His Royal Majesty”. All other Traditional Heads of various communities in Benin Kingdom, including the Elawure of Usen and Enigies, bear the style “His Royal Highness”. This is in line with the Edo State Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law.

We recall that prior to the Obaseki administration, one Arisco Osemwingie was arrested and prosecuted for parading himself with the same title “Imperial Majesty of Utatan” during the Adams Oshiomhole administration. He was remanded in custody. Regrettably, upon assumption of office, the Obaseki administration facilitated his release from prison.

Our Organization, through protest and constructive engagement, rejected Arisco Osemwingie’s release and issued a public warning that should he resume parading the illegal title, we would demand his re-arrest. That case remains pending in court.

Having gone underground following public outcry, we were alarmed to see a publication dated 27th April, 2026, credited to Bevy Efe, again promoting this sacrilegious and non-existent title.

The promotion or propagation of fictitious traditional titles in Benin Kingdom is sacrilegious, provocative, and capable of breaching public peace. It desecrates our heritage and attempts to create parallel authority to the revered Benin Throne.

We therefore call on the Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Benin Traditional Council, to urgently investigate the activities of Bevy Efe and his sponsors.

We remain law-abiding and we don't want to take the law into our hands. Hence, the major reason we are appealing to relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent anarchy.

The Edo State High Court has declared unlawful the restriction of human and vehicular movement during the state’s environmental sanitation exercise, in a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday. Justice Isoken Urhomwen Erameh ruled that the enforcement of a stay-at-home order between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on sanitation days violates citizens’ constitutional rights. In its decision, the court held that such restrictions are inconsistent with Section 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, which guarantees freedom of movement. Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Challenging Edo Governorship Election The Supreme Court has ruled that the petitioners seeking to nullify the Edo State governorship election failed to substantiate their claims. Delivering its verdict on Thursday, the apex court held that since the petitioners did not challenge results from all the polling units across the state, it was “absurd” to demand the nullification of the entire election and to be declared winners. The court further stated that the appellants failed to call witnesses or tender admissible evidence to prove irregularities in the disputed polling units. With this ruling, the Supreme Court has affirmed the outcome of the election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Suspected Cultists Attack  Odionwere, Elders, Okaighele In Obazuwa Community  Not less than twenty suspected cultists led by the former Okaighele, Odaro Peace Ibizugbe, of Obazuwa Community in the Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State,off the upper  Ekenwan road,  weekend  attacked the Odionwere, elders and the present Okaighele of the community. Odaro and his group of boys were said to have invaded the community with guns, battle axes and different weapons. According to the new Okaighele, Mr. Idahosa Nosakhare, they were at the Odionwere house on Friday 27 of March,  at about 11 am holding meeting to brief the elders of the community who could not attend the meeting at the Palace of the Royal father, Oba Ewuare 11 where the issue of the Obazuwa community Okaigheleship  was resolved, when Odaro and his group of boys armed to the teeth Attacked us.
