STATEMENT OF FACTS

Re: Enlisting of Certain Self-Acclaimed Benin Elites for Reconciliation

It is a settled principle that when an error is left uncorrected, abuse becomes inevitable. It is, therefore, necessary to clearly address the ongoing attempts by certain interests to enlist names for so-called “reconciliation” within the Benin Kingdom.

Our attention has been drawn to a list of individuals pencilled down for reconciliation, many of whom are well-known supporters, enablers, and apologists of Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s sacrilegious actions and calculated plots against the highly revered Benin Royal Palace.

While a few individuals on the list are considered exceptional like Prince Aghatise Erediauwa, Edion Oliha, the Oliha of Benin Kingdom, His Excellency Lucky Imasuen, Honourable E.J Agbonayiman, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie (SAN), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and West Idahosa (SAN) but others who were enlisted are either active participants or silent beneficiaries of actions that desecrated the sanctity, authority, and cultural heritage of the Benin Royal Institution.

It is deeply troubling that reconciliation is being promoted with individuals who aided, justified, or remained complicit in these acts, while it is evident that both they and their political principal Mr. Godwin Obaseki, their acknowledged paymaster remain unrepentant and have shown no genuine remorse or public acknowledgement of wrongdoing.

Furthermore, it is untenable and culturally unacceptable to speak of reconciliation concerning the Benin Kingdom without the direct, open, and central involvement of the highly revered Benin Royal Palace. Any reconciliation process that sidelines the Palace is invalid, insincere, and an affront to Benin tradition and authority.

Additionally, it is illogical and politically dishonest to attempt reconciliation among political actors from opposing platforms, burdened with conflicting ambitions, on the eve of electioneering campaigns, when political interests, propaganda, and power struggles are at their peak. Such an exercise can only be interpreted as a strategic maneuvre, not a sincere pursuit of peace or unity.

Our Position:
We the AIGUOBASINMWIN MOVEMENT WORLD-WIDE maintains that:
True reconciliation must be rooted in truth, accountability, repentance, and respect for Benin tradition.
There can be no reconciliation without the Benin Royal Palace.

There can be no reconciliation with unrepentant actors who participated in sacrilege against the throne.
Political convenience must not be disguised as cultural reconciliation.

Until these fundamental principles are respected, any reconciliation effort remains premature, deceptive, and unacceptable.
Benin Throne is sacred.

Our heritage is non-negotiable.
Truth must come before peace.
