CBN Governor Cardoso, Others For Nigerian Economic Society 2024 Public Lecture

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Dr. Olayemi Cardoso will join other personalities and discussants in charting a path for the country's financial sector as the Nigerian Economic Society hold her 2024 Public Lecture entitled , " Recent  Developments in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market: Issues, options and the way forward. "

President, Nigerian Economic Society, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen at the weekend.

He said the event would hold at the Central Bank of Nigeria  Centre of Excellence lecture threatre, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, University of Ibadan, on Thursday 22nd February at 12pm.

The statement said personalities expected  at the 2024 Public Lecture of the Nigerian Economic Society are, Vice Chancellor,  University of Ibadan, Prof. K.O. Adebowale, Chief host, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,  Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as key note speaker.

Others  personalities to grace the event include, a professor of Economics, Prof Sam olofin, Mr. Bismarck  Rewane, Dr. Tope Fasua and Prof. Antonia Taiye Simbine, Director-General, Nigerian Institute Of Social And Economic Research (NISER) who is the event chairperson.

 The Society's National Secretary,  Dr. Frank Ogbeide, invites members of the public to to join the public lecture Via the Society's YouTube and LinkedIn social media handles to contribute to the discourse in chatting a winning path for the nation's FX market,  as well as give direction to ensuring stability of the Naira against major currencies.

67 Dukes Suspended By Oba Of Benin Over Rebellious Act .

The Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare the second has officially announced the suspension of 67 (sixty-seven) enigie (dukes) with immediate effect. The announcement is contained in a statement by the secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor and made available to newsmen. According to the statement, the suspension of the enigie was largely due to their rebellious activities to balkanize the throne and the kingdom. It would be recalled that the suspended dukes, led by professor Gregory Akenzua and Edomwonyi Ogiegbaen have challenged the suspension in court.

Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Challenging Edo Governorship Election The Supreme Court has ruled that the petitioners seeking to nullify the Edo State governorship election failed to substantiate their claims. Delivering its verdict on Thursday, the apex court held that since the petitioners did not challenge results from all the polling units across the state, it was “absurd” to demand the nullification of the entire election and to be declared winners. The court further stated that the appellants failed to call witnesses or tender admissible evidence to prove irregularities in the disputed polling units. With this ruling, the Supreme Court has affirmed the outcome of the election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
