Edo Speaker Agbebaku Makes A Turn Around congratulates Edo Governor Elect Okpebholo

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has congratulated the governor-elect of the state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his victory at the just concluded governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress, APC’s Okpebholo, defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo with 291,667 votes as against 247,274 votes.

Agbebaku’s congratulatory message was contrary to the position of the governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and the State leadership of PDP who vowed that they would not congratulate the governor-elect, alleging that the election was rigged and manipulated in favour of APC.


Agbebaku, who congratulated the governor-elect at plenary on Wednesday, advised to be wary of sycophants.

His congratulary message reads: “The governor-elect is for Edo people and not for the All Progressives Congress alone and I prayed that sycophants do not mislead him.”

Recalls that the Speaker, a member of PDP representing Owan West constituency at the State House of Assembly lost his local government at the election to APC.

APC polled a total of 12,277 votes while PDP scored 11, 284 votes.

Breaking: Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu Served Impeachment Notice As Edo State House of Assembly Commences Impeachment Process

The Edo House of Assembly on Wednesday commenced impeachment proceedings against the state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. The Majority leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, who announced the impeachment notice during plenary, said the petition dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members against the deputy governor. Aiguobarueghian stated, “The petition against the deputy governor came in on March 5 and was signed by 21 out of the 24 members. The number of members who signed the petition was more than the two-third requirement stipulated in the constitution.” He also said that the petition was based on two grounds perjury and revealing of government secrets. By Editor  Federal High Court Nullifies PDP Governorship Primaries in Edo State. In a significant ruling today, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Ekwo, declared that the PDP nomination processes were non-compliant with its own constitution. As a result, the court has set aside all processes leading to the Edo PDP governorship primaries held on February 22nd, 2024.
