Edo 2024: Edo will Be Better under My Watch - Olumide Akpata
The governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the September 21 Governorship Election in Edo State, Mr. Olumide Akpata has identified agriculture, security, health, education amongst others as priority areas he will focus attention on.
In line with the party's slogan of "papa, mama and pikin", Mr. Akpata who spoke Thursday with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Press Centre, Benin said his government will be centred around the welfare of the people.
He said his government will not turn a blind eye to projects earlier embarked upon by his predecessor if they are aimed at the welfare of the people because the money used in executing them belonged to them who are the tax payers.
The governorship candidate, who was accompanied by his running mate, Prince (SAN) said he is a proponent of local government autonomy.
He lamented the financial strangulation of local government councils in the country which he hinged on the absence of autonomy, adding that with autonomy, the local government council chairmen and their councilors must remain in their domains.
The LP governorship candidate said that bad roads in the state will be attended to whether federal or state provided they have a direct impact on Edo people.
Mr. Akpata noted that when federal roads that have direct impact on the people in the state are fixed, the federal government can reimburse the state instead of allowing the citizens to suffer unnecessarily.
He said that Edo people deserved better governance than what the current administration could offer considering the huge amount of internally generated revenue and allocations.
He promised that if elected, he will not use tax payers money for things that will not add value to the lives of the people and that Edo will be Run Differently he said.
