Swear-In Judges Afolabi Tells Obaseki
Renowned legal practitioner Olayiwola Afolabi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has joined the long list of concerned citizens asking Governor Godwin Obaseki to expedite the swearing-in process for the eight nominees approved by the National Judicial Council (NJC) since June 2023, slated for appointment as judges to the Edo State High Court.
Expressing deep concern over the protracted delay in administering the oath of office to these judge-designates, Afolabi emphasized the widespread anxiety triggered among legal professionals in both the state and beyond. In a formal letter addressed to Governor Obaseki, he communicated the urgency of resolving this matter promptly.
Highlighting the governor’s non-legal background, Afolabi took the additional step of involving the Attorney-General of Edo State, recognizing the legal nuances involved in the situation. Acknowledging Obaseki’s commendable governance achievements, Afolabi commended the governor for elevating standards of good governance among South-South governors and leaving a legacy of substantial developmental strides.
Underlining Obaseki’s notable contributions to the judiciary, Afolabi praised the creation of a conducive working environment for judges and magistrates, including the installation of air conditioning units in their offices. He lauded Obaseki’s commitment to finishing his term strongly, urging the timely swearing-in of the eight judge-designates before the conclusion of his eight-year tenure in November 2024.
