Edo PDP Ward Delegate Election: Eight Officials Abducted
Eight electoral officers of the Edo State ward delegate election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slated for February 3rd and 4th have been reportedly abducted and whisked away.
They were kidnapped in Jattu town, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state while heading to Etsako Central Local Government Area for the election, Mr. Anthony Anenih, State Organising Secretary of the PDP in a statement has said.
Anenih, on behalf of the PDP called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) “to order a swift investigation of the incident and promptly ensure the release of the affected officials, whose families are troubled by the fate of their loved ones.”
The ward delegate election was said to have been held and adjudged peaceful by the State Organising Secretary of the PDP despite petitions of anomalies signed by nine out of the ten governorship aspirants, and the consequent withdrawal Governor Seyi Makinde from the election.
Recall that it had been
reported yesterday, February 3rd, that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State who was appointed as chairman of the Ward Congress Committee declined his appointment.Makinde in a letter to the National Working Committee, NWC, cited late information as to his appointment, and even more the adulteration of the list of electoral officers with government officials from Edo and Delta states.
He particularly cited the appointment of the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly as the Electoral Officer for his local government.
The withdrawal of Governor Makinde came as nine of the governorship aspirants in a strongly worded letter to the NWC expressed outrage over the adulteration of the lists of electoral officials with government officials.
The petition by the aspirants was signed by Philip Shaibu, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anslem Ojezua and Felix Akhabue.
Others who signed the petition were Martin Uhomibhi, Hajia Hadizat Umoru, Ms Omosede Igbinedion, Dr Osaro Oaiwu and Arthure Esene.
