Edo South PDP Distance Self From Purported Endorsement Of Guber Aspirant

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo South Senatorial District has warned gubernatorial

aspirants on the platform of the party to be wary of the antics of one Dickson Imasogie, declaring that the latter is not the senatorial leader of the PDP in Edo South.

This is contained in a statement personally signed by Mr. Anthony Peter Ihimi, Secretary, PDP Edo South Senatorial District and made available to journalists Saturday, in Benin City, Edo state capital.

The Secretary said Imasogie had on Wednesday 17th January 2024 at the gubernatorial aspiration of Barrister Asue Ighodalo claimed to be the leader of Edo South Senatorial District, which is a total falsehood.

Ihimi accused Imasogie of going further to endorse and declare support on behalf of the senatorial district for an aspirant, Ighodalo.

He said Dickson Imasogie’s endorsement was personal and for himself alone, adding that the leadership of the party in Edo South Senatorial District at the moment is vested on Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor, the State Vice Chairman (South), who alone in consultation with the leadership can make official statements on behalf of the district.

The statement reads in parts: “Our attention has been drawn to remarks made by one Dickson Imasogie on Wednesday 17th January 2024 at the Gubernatorial Aspiration of Barrister Asue Ighodalo in which he claimed to be the leader of Edo South Senatorial District.

“This is to rightly inform the public that Dickson Imasogie is not the Senatorial leader of the PDP in Edo South, and as such does not, and has never had the constitutional authority and mandate to speak on behalf of the PDP Edo South Senatorial District, its leadership, or its members.

“His statements were personal and for himself alone. The constitution of our party is very clear and unambiguous. The leadership of PDP in Edo South Senatorial District at this time is vested on Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor, the State Vice Chairman (South), who alone in consultation with the leadership can make official statements on behalf of the district.

“We want to use this medium to warn all selfish and self-seeking politicians to desist forthwith from making statements intended to mislead our teeming supporters and the general public.

“We specifically advise Dickson Imasogie to henceforth stop further impersonation and arrogating to himself the power and authority of senatorial leadership.”

Ihimi noted that Edo South Senatorial District is not opposed to any Gubernatorial Aspirant’s ambition, as it traditionally offers a level playing field to all aspirants seeking the party’s candidacy for elective office.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, has raised concerns over conduct and utterances of a former chairman of the party in Edo South Senatorial District, Owere Dickson Imasogie, saying the latter is not the party chairman in Edo South and as such, can only speak for himself.

He raised his contained in a statement he made available to journalists in Benin City, Edo state.

Omo-Ojo said the former chairman of Edo South Senatorial District is free to endorse any aspirant but cannot not to speak on behalf of Edo South leaders.

Omo-ojo, while noting that the party chairman in Edo South, remains Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor Esq, he called on Imasogie to desist from parading himself as the leader of the zone.

The PDP leader condemned in strong terms attempts by Imasogie to claim he has the authority to endorse any aspirant on behalf of the Edo South PDP.

The statement reads in part, “The statement made by the former Chairman of Edo South Senatorial District, Owere Dickson Imasogie is an empty personal endorsement by a faded self interest politician who was recently chased out by Edo South leaders because of his open fight over cow meat and other inducements he had clandestinely cornered to himself.

“It must be noted that what Owere Dickson Imasogie mischievously said at a recent flag off of a PDP aspirant, has nothing to do with the corporate interest Benins of Edo South Senatorial District.

“Imasogie has a constitutional right to stand with any aspirant of his choice because, but should he noted that he is not an officer of the party.

“As he rightly put it, he has not spoken on behalf of Edo South leaders, but perhaps his household.

“For the information of Edo people, Owere Dickson Imasogie is not the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo South and as such, can only speak for himself and some of his followers, as he has done.

“The Edo South Senatorial Chairman remains Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor Esq who has the authority of leaders from the Seven local government areas in South to speak for our collective interest.

“The general public should please be mindful of statements in the manner Owere Dickson Imasogie has spoken. Such is capable of polarising the PDP, which needs healing at this time.

“The Peoples Democratic Party is one big family and recent attempts by some lazy politicians across the state, to resort to ‘cheating’ endorsement stands condemned, just as their proponents.”Omo-Ojo said.

It would be recalled that Imasogie had endorsed an aspirant where he was quoted to have said , “I have endorsed him and will take the message back to my people.” Owere Dickson Imasogie had said.
