Finnish-Nigerian separatist leader, Simon Ekpa, has been arrested in Finland alongside four others on suspicion of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing. Reports from local publication Yle indicated that Ekpa was remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent. In a statement released on Thursday, November 21, the Finnish Central Criminal Police confirmed the arrest of five individuals suspected of terrorist activities. NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GRANTS FULL AUTONOMY TO THE 774 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF NIGERIA AS INEC IS NOW TO CONDUCT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS... "The National Assembly on Tuesday, granted full financial and administrative autonomy to all the 774 local council authorities across Nigeria by amending section 124 of the nation’s constitution. The section provides a consequential provision for the making of the local councils, a full third tier government without undue interference from the state governments. The ammendment was one of the 22 others approved by the House of Representatives last week and ratified by the Senate on Tuesday. Both chambers had through a conference committee harmonised versions of the ammendments into the constitution carried out by each of them last month. The Aiguobasinmwin Movement has issued a strong condemnation of the Edo Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) and its Executive Director, Mr. Philip Ihenacho, following the group’s protest demanding the revocation of MOWAA’s Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) and its conversion into a People’s Hospital. In a press statement signed by its President, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture, and Secretary-General, Mr. Osayuki-Osa Benson, the Movement accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of masterminding the establishment of MOWAA through alleged fraudulent means. They claim the museum project diverted funds initially earmarked for the construction of the Benin Royal Museum, which was championed by the revered Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II. According to the statement, Obaseki exploited his role in the Benin Dialogue Group, a committee formed in 2019 to facilitate the return of looted Benin artifacts and mobilize resources for the Benin Royal Museum.
